Poor Facilities At Bong Mines Central High School

The authority of the Bong Mines Central High School says the school lacks basic facilities to enhance smooth operation. Speaking when a team of reporters visited the Bong Mines Central High School, the Vice Principal, Mr. Roland Cooper cited inadequate sitting capacity for students, laboratory, sport facilities among other things as some of the problem facing the school. Mr. Cooper: “lack of support from government has impeded our progress.

According to him, since three years, the school has not received subside from government as was done in the past. “For several years now we have not been getting real support from the government.

Mr. Cooper said instructional materials are purchased by themselves and some times they appealed to some humanitarian organizations to assist with materials.
Bong Mines Hosp. Cries For Doctors-Drugs, Logistics Lacking

One of Liberia’s most reliable prewar health facilities – the Bong Mines Hospital – is still grappling with challenges to restore itself, and authorities there have alarmed that the facility lacks a medical doctor, drugs and several other logistics.

Authorities said the lack of these essential needs is causing serious problem for the smooth operations of the hospital, least to mention provision of timely and efficient services.

The hospital is host to thousands of citizens in the old mining town of Bong Mines and scores of other towns and villages dotted in the region—Fuamah District of Bong County.

The Administrator of the Hospital, Mr. Alvin Sirleaf, told journalists that the hospital finds it difficult to handle critical cases because they lack a doctor to deal with them.
Bomi Community college Embarks On Renovation
Bomi CountyThe Bomi Community College (BCC) has embarked on a renovation project in Tubmanburg City, Bomi County. During an assessment tour of the project site over the weekend, the Project Manager Mr. Andrew Cassell of Jerfloh Engineering Construction Line stated that the project would cost between 100 to 200,000 USD to complete the building. He said that his company was given US$100,000 to carry on the renovation which is to last for three months. “We have now gone three weeks into the prescribed time and you can see the level of work that we have done. We are going to do our best to beautify this building to put Bomi Community College on par with other colleges in Liberia,” he said.

For his part, Bomi County Superintendent Rev. Samuel F. Brown said the project is what he had yearned for over the years. He expressed happiness and graded the construction company with a 'B' for the level of job done so far. “This is what I have been yearning for over the years as we all know that Bomi County is 'brain drained'. We are going to make sure that a scholarship program is developed to help students from Bomi,” he emphasized.
Bomi Hospital Gives New Lease Of Life
Bomi CountyFrederick proudly walked the hallway at the Bomi hospital beaming with smiles and thanking God for the good news that his wife had safely given birth to their third, a girl. A nurse had told him not to worry, that everything was fine with his wife and child.

The 45-year old Liberian farmer, who feared he would lose his child due to infant mortality, had spent three days in the old mining town of Tubmanburg, praying hard for his wife to bear their child safely. “I prayed day and night for my wife. Thank God He has done it again!” Frederick, with his face elated, told the LRDC News team visiting the Government’s only hospital in the area recently.
Bomi Women Call for Ellen's Intervention in Holiday Inn Case
Bomi CountySeveral women from Bomi County on Friday visited the Proprietor of the Holiday Inn Hotel on Carey Street in dissatisfaction over the recent Supreme Court ruling rendered in the case against the hotel.

Speaking on behalf of the women group from Bomi County, Madam Musu Sackie said Mr. H.M. Jawhary who is a humanitarian has lived in Liberia for 46 years was not treated fairly by the court verdict.
For ‘Chopping’ County Funds
Bomi CountyHouse members have jailed four top local government officials for allegedly misappropriating over US$100, 000 allocated towards the development of their respective counties.

Superintendent Beauty Barcon (Montserrado County) and Mohammed Massaly (Bomi County), along with their respective Development Superintendents and a staff at   the Internal Affairs Ministry (Michael George), were Tuesday accused of violating the 2008 budget law relative to the usage of County Development funds for developmental purposes, and   have therefore been sent to the Monrovia Central Prison for 48 hours.
Bomi Out Of County Meet!

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s Bomi County is out of this year’s National County meet organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Bomi ended her quest of retaining the title after being defeated by Maryland County 2-0 in Harper City, Maryland County on Sunday, December 13, 2009 in continuation of the preliminary round of the competition.
Mecca District: China to Construct Three High Schools in Liberia Shortly

Burgeoning bilateral ties between China and the Liberian Government is bearing tangible fruits, with the former offering to build three secondary schools in the country equipped with modern laboratories and libraries.


Making the disclosure following a cabinet meeting over the weekend, Information Minister Dr. Laurence Bropleh said the schools would be built in Swen Mecca District, Bomi County, Jacob Town community on Paynesville Somalia Drive and in Soul Clinic community also in Paynesvill.
